Re: Re: I wonder why it is assumed Obama voters haven't done their homework...
Having read the tax proposal on Obama's website, I find your statements a bit confusing, FineYoungSinger.  First, credits that reduce taxes paid are certainly the mathematical equivalent of tax cuts, whatever you name them, and are always included in tax cut packages.  Second, Obama states he will eliminate capital gains taxes for "small businesses and start-ups", in addition to giving them a 50% tax credit on health benefits paid to employees.  Sounds like a tax cut for small business, at least compared to current law.  Third, Obama has not said he will place and income cap on anything.  He has proposed removing the income cap on Social Security taxes.  I don't agree with him on that, but it is nothing like what your statement seems to imply.  My preferred option would be to make SS benefits means-tested, which I think would be more politically acceptable and more efficient.

But if you want misleading and dishonest, you're looking at the wrong campaign.  McCain has been much more misleading and dishonest, and his proposals seem to have little relationship to reality.

Re: I wonder why it is assumed Obama voters haven't done their homework...

Regarding Obama's plan:  his plan is not ONE DOCUMENT.  His plan is a series of documents and web pages that, when researched point-by-point, are either not what he calls them (the 95% tax cut?  Since when are credits tax cuts? one mere example); reiterations of bills, practices and standards that are already in place; or ideas and plans built upon a vague definition (as in "small business"--a small business is NOT someone who files a schedule C---drive down the industrial parkways in your locality sometime---there you will see "SMALL BUSINESSES", which are by definition companies employing 100 or fewer people and grossing a maximum amount anywhere from $300,000 to $1m depending upon the industry.  Half the businesses in my town would be hit by the capital gain tax that Obama is proposing.)

Additionally, he's made false, misleading and dishonest statements over and over during his entire campaign.  If he's being misleading and dishonest during his campaign, what makes you think he's going to be anything but dishonest and misleading during his presidency?  How is misleading the public into thinking that tax credits and raising capital gains is only going to affect the rich in America having concern and interest for the working classes?  How is placing an "income cap" upon Americans to stunt the growth of the economy having any concern for the downtrodden?

There should be no doubt to anyone that reads ME knows that I'm not a huge fan of McCain, as he's been too weak in his retorts, unprepared for his debates and erratic and reactionary during a crisis.  However, it's clear that quite a few Obama supporters haven't done their homework, because so many support him blindly, and believe that he's proposing change when he's doing nothing more than supporting the status quo.

From one document, plan, book, etc., there are always myriad comprehensions and interpretations. I don't think Obama's economic proposals are the perfect end all - far from it, but they are proposals, not set in stone. The thing for me is that Obama, as opposed to McCain, does seem to have much more concern for and interest in the working classes and the downtrodden and their long running struggles.

Perhaps you need to do more research.

Obama on several occasions has shown little understanding of the economy: One example in particular is his 95% tax cut---if you look at his plan, he proposes several CREDITS, but no real cuts.  For the rest of his non-plan, go do the research yourself---his plans are all on his website.  http://www.barackobama.com/.   read them carefully.

Stop getting your information from the television.
