I have had that challenge for over twenty years now with my grandson who cannot speak due to birth injury that caused cerebral palsy and mental retardation. He is such a happy fellow and interested in socializing with people but his communication is totally facial expression, body language and some hand signals like clapping his hands for a yes answer to a question directed to him. I'm sure that most of those you work with are on a higher level than that, but that makes it even more challenging and interesting.
