mousehop:  That's the main reason that Obama has proposed a "socialized medicine" approach.  He appears to deal with issues such as existing conditions, etc.

Ultimately his solution isn't really solving the problem, either---the problem being rising health care costs and insurance companies dictating health care.

You're right, McCain's plan doesn't address the problems, at least not directly, and the main effect of his plan would be to decrease employer-provided health insurance.  And he hasn't talked about how to pay for it ($1.3 trillion over ten years), or what happens to the sick and elderly, who get shoved aside, while the young and healthy get cheaper coverage.  That's what the market will do.

Re:

Samantha, that's the catch 22 we're all in.  Mine went up last year too, and I have decent coverage.  I had to add a deductable to my medical plan, which is great for me, but sucks for my husband who goes to the doctor 2x a year, so we pay $500 out of pocket before we're covered.

Wouldn't it be great to see a plan that reimburses our premiums to us if we don't use our insurance other than for a checkup?  Now that would be progress.

I agree.  My premiums have doubled in the past year.  I
remember when all of a sudden they went up.  I called
thinking it was a mistake, but it was right and the person
I talked to said others had raised higher than mine.  It's
ridiculous what we have to pay for premiums and I rarely
go to the dr. but I don't want to cancel it.  My point is
being in a pool would be much better for me than paying
individually.
