Difficult decision
I've always found it a difficult decision choosing between the buildup of tension that eventually translates into more excitement on the day of such goings on and giving in to earlier activities relating to the eventual event. Pardon my roundabout way of saying this, but we've never had a Halloween celebration in our culture. It sounds like you found a good approach of doing some preparation without spoiling the actual day. It is so difficult to see those longing faces and not do something about it!
