aren't you glad I didn't stay
with The church I was in for such a long time where we didn't celebrate any traditional Christian holidays, like Easter and Christmas and Hallowe'en?
And I learned that they all were indeed pagan.
But then I learned that we are beyond all that now. Faith defines belief.
And sometimes fun helps to define it too.
So you grew up with Hallowe'en.
It seems the only celebration with a connection to Nature any more now. The others have become so disconnected.

Non Christians shouldn't celebrate Christian Holydays anyway.
So I agree with you to just enjoy Santa, Chocolate eggs hidden in the garden, and haunted houses, and have a good fun day off work. Oh and Laugh at all the simple minded sheep who believe in a God of their understanding.

kooka_lives - they call them "protestants" for a reason
To badmouth the catholic church is a longstanding tradition and a great deal of it is deserved but... There comes a times when the insanity of the historic conflicts between catholics and protestants, completely denigrates both religions. Here I am defending catholics sort of . . . . whew! . . that was too close for my comfort.

fallen away catholic
i grew up catholic & always was entertained by how we (compared to other christian religions) really knew how to party. we could drink & dance & enjoy ourselves--as long as we procreated & went to confession! haha. & we never worried about going to hell because we had confession & last rites to cover us. i became a "born again pagan" as an adult & once had a debate with a boy who was raised as a jehovah's witness & was talking about how they don't celebrate holidays because god, etc should be celebrated every day. i told him how pagans celebrate the changes of the season, etc. which meant our holidays actually would be time specific--he wasn't sure what to make of that!

True Kooka...
...I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools right through high school and while I don't follow a religion now I have also noted that a lot of the Catholic stuff is very 'light' in comparison to other Christian religions. I guess we figured that as long as we didn't miss mass on Sunday that everything else was fine! Ha! Kidding but taking such goolish holidays too seriously is just a bit daft as far as I'm concerned. People interpret things pretty much the way they want to without delving into the background.
