TAPS, lobster bisque??? LOL
thankfully, my house has power.  We were lucky!

Sunny, most of the city is without power.
This includes our daycare.  Us teachers are being shipped to other centers (who have power) to help out.  They say it might take 7 days to restore power.  UGH!

we are going without power now
For going on 18-20 hours now, with no telling how long we will be without...again.

The last time it was 3-4 days.

We have several large trees and branches down, on our property alone...one, roots and all. And have seen many many more on surrounding properties and neighboring towns.

You can't even get in touch with the electric company.
My mom got an answering machine that said 150,000 were without power and now is down to thirtysome thousand...but I don't believe that. If they were able to repair that much damage overnight, we would have power by now. Unless they don't give a shit about us in the country...which may be the case.

Shelly_b, do you have emergency equipment ready--flashlights, candles, bottled water, lobster bisque, stuff like that?

JanesOpinion, I heard about that.

The storm being as big as Texas.  Imagine?  Brings shivers down my spine.

I'm just happy I don't have any huge trees around my townhouse.  Just the lamp post that's holding out despite the winds.

Oh my, sounds scary!

I hope that's all the damage your property sustains -- i.e. a crack in the garage door!

We've had a boatload of rain here in Michigan, with quite a lot of flooding.  I'm thankful to report no damage personally, but I know a lot of folks here live in flood zones . . . .

speaking of flooding, I was amazed to read that the eye of the storm (Hurricane Ike) was 49 miles wide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Wow!  And what, at one point the entire storm was the size of the state of Texas.  Hello!

Bel, stay inside just in case!

you don't want to be blown to Kansas or anything.

Just checked the weather for lower Michigan
they have flood warnings and wind advisories.  Their wind is only expected to get to 45 MPH.

I can imagine Shelly
at our old house we had a HUGE box elder in the front that was half dead.  Because of the power lines we couldn't risk taking it out ourselves and consumers energy never got around to taking it out.  I heard it came down last summer during a storm and had we been living there it would have taken out both vehicles with it.

Bel, I don't think I would even want to be near the woods right now..
it's bad enough with the trees we have now around our place.  The wind took down two...roots and all.

posted by shelly_b on September 14, 2008 at 3:25 PM | link to this | reply

Yep
Think I'll keep my happy little self right here in the woods where it's nice and safe.  I wonder what it's like in the lower part of the state.

Bel, I just watched the news..
trees and powerlines are down all over the place!  Some of the winds have been getting up to 75 mph.
