Great post Taps... God help those who stayed and survived and bless those who are no longer with us.

I love life too much to risk it for possessions or such. They can be
replaced but you my darling are irreplaceable and loved too much to be at risk......so next time get your naughty ass outta there!!!!!~

One should think that the sense of self preservation should prevail over the protection of property (in vain anyway with  storm of that magnitude) but obviously not. But you know a strange thing? I left Miami when the hurricane season started to be out of harm's way just in case, but deep down, snuggly in Turkey, I feel like a coward, as if I just chickend out.

TAPS
A beautiful post. Yes this is the hour, each and every one of them. That is my angst about politics this election, it may be our last hour because we can't believe in our not being above total destruction.

Muley, I'm afraid I'm sitting here laughing at the idea of me giving lessons on writing, but thank you for the compliment.

This is good writing
     Do you give lessons?

"Why do they stay" - a good question and although I'm sure it's a visceral response (wanting to protect one's home) you would think fear or, at the very least, logic would prevail.  I count my blessings that I have not had to endure such brutal bouts with nature.

I am forever astounded at the stubbornness of people! I would think my life would have more value than to test a storm of this magnitude!  sam

One of the huge lessons I have learned in my life
is to live as if there is no tomorrow.

One of employees was talking to a woman in texas and they came to the door to evacuate her, now would  you been on the phone if it was that bad, asking about your bill?

Nature doesn't care what they think or believe.
Years ago, my Dad used to tell a story he'd heard from a professor of astronomy: a student said to him grandly, one day in the 60s, "I accept the Universe!"  The professor replied, "You'd better!"

I am wandering if it has something to do with not wanting to leave your house empty; you know, better to die in it than to have someone steal from it? It's all rather crazy to me.

TAPS

I think many of us, some more than others, have a congenital reaction of defiance in the face of a threat, and even a sense invincibility. It can also be stupid, of course, and one would certainly hope nobody is being punished too severely for their stupidity...

To quote Steven Alexander, a resident of Bacliff, a small town on Galveston Bay,  “it ain’t nothing but a little wind and rain.”

People are amazingly stupid when faced with overwhelming nature.
I, too, have stood on the porch and watched storm clouds, lightning jumping all around, when tornado warnings clearly indicated I should take cover. I imagine everyone thinks they've been ok so far, that the warnings are overblown.  Duh!

Taps, I guess we'll soon hear more about it...reading Corbin's comment, I'm
not surprised, though it is shocking that people act that way.

I was watching Fox last night......
and they were at a Bar in Galvaston where people were partying on the bar's deck......the reporter pleaded with them to leave....telling them they were facing death....their answer was "this is what we do "..........I have a feeling it now needs to be changed to "did"...
