Re:
Auslander, never a person to care about the top, I go on my happy way, as long
as it is not sitting on the bottom. I have always striven to rise above the bottom
of whatever I endeavor.

KaBoom, there are many amazing people who are amazing writers on Blogit that have never, ever, made it to the top ten of the popularity poll, and who don't really even strive to do so. Personally, I find your writings and your photographs intensely interesting.

Vogue, I would think that "tunnel vision" would be especially bad for a writer. It is a writer's observation of, and reaction to the world around him that makes his writing special.

Gimmicks may get you to the top, but do not be deceived, the readers are not fooled, they realize its gimmicky very quickly after they click, and often wish the click could be recalled.

It is enormously satisfying to struggle to the top of whatever one does and great fun to try and stay there, as long as tunnel vision does not prevent us from looking down the mountain top.

It's too stressful and demanding to stay at the top: one day, even the best of the best, tumble down the wall and breaks into too many pieces for all the king's horse and all the king's men to put back together...So, don't worry, be happy!

Sam, I notice how much work you put out to read and comment. Everywhere
I read, you have already been there. It is great that someone takes time
to do that.

Justi, Blogit standing was just one of my examples of how it is at the top--work.
If one aspires to be at the top of anything they must keep working. I think it
was interesting how some of the Olympic medal winners planned to keep working
for the next Olympic Games in four years and some were ready to give up and do
something else.

Being at and or holding a top position on Blogit sounds like an incredible amount of work. I have been at the top of my game a time or two in my career, that was hard it had an urgency about it, this doesn't. I do this for the joy of communicating my thoughts, reading other's thoughts and attempting to get some semblance of what is behind the vast differences in viewpoints. The people I read and those who read me are very important to me... Not my position.

Greenfields, your posts are always wonderful to read. I usually learn something
new everytime I read you. That's what's good about reading people who live
and work in other lands. It's what I like about Blogit.

And after a while its very tiring....As for blogit, I just want to enjoy it, have ahigh rating and people read and respond to my post as I do to theirs. Don't want to be number 1.

Gawd I find myself agreeing with Nautikos tonight over and over. He is absolutely right, Its true... the top of the hill is a hard place to defend...and I am more than content to hide in the bottom of the heap... where the more moderate climate is and things are more easy going. You my dear belong at the top... this is a great post!

How the heck do you write so many great posts one after another. Yup, it's hard to keep the attention, one really has to work at it and I've spent more time making love succeed than blogging.

Hey, Taps ....
just curious ... why all of a sudden is your blog so wide?
I have to scroll back and forth to read the last several posts.
Never had to before. Thought you might want to know.
(You can delete this if you want, since it's not really
germane to your topic.)

You hit the nail on the head about the whole campaign process, Taps.
Getting and holding the attention of the populace is paramount over
real issues. That's why topics that no-one will ever agree
on - abortion and gay marriage, say - are the only things
that people remember. If we're all in agreement; health care,
education - no one seems to listen anymore.

Opinion polls are useless; popularity means squat.
Van Gogh for example. His work was garbage if the opinion of the day meant anything.
