TAPS
I have been following the course of this storm on the tube, and it doesn't look good. I certainly hope that all concerned have learned from the Katrina disaster, and that there will be no loss of life! The physical damage caused by this storm is another matter, and I pity the people whose lives and properties are affected...

I hope this one is a pale imitation of Katrina...
We don't need no natural disasters....

I agree this does not look like what I think of as Mother. She shouts of a harsh delivery. Please keep our coastal children in your prayers.

Being from an island in the Caribbean and living now in Miami Beach, hurricanes are a part of life to me.  That does not mean that I am not terrified of them .   I  respect and fear their tremendous destructive power.  I do not know where many of you are and  I truly feel for those of you that are at or near  the Golf coast.  Tonight will be a terrible night but hopefully it will pass fast and with not too much damage.    I will pray for that.  Good luck to all.  Great post Taps :-)

The closest I've been to a Hurricane was in Cape Hatteras. We had to evacuate by car and there were so many of us on the road, it was going so slow that I,m still surprise we made it "out" on time. I still remember the big windows ondulating in the wind too and my Mann who is from Australia  and use to this kind of thing telling me to get away from them. Not my sort of vacation.

Yes, this storm looks bad.  Of course the media
always makes them seem worse.

The deja vu of this just gives me chills
I pray that it won't follow the pattern of Katrina in the way that it destroyed so many lives.

It would appear the Mayor is far better prepared than last time

He learned a hard lesson.  As did a number of other gov officials. . . .

I do hope and pray the new levees hold.

kingmi, Cape Girardeau, MO offered to take Gustav refugees and at the same time are experiencing minor earthquakes.  That sounds akin to "out of the frying pan into the fire".  LOL

TAPS, I think KC is safe. Your neighbor can relax. OK on the other hand
is preparing for refugees.  As for Iowa, ten thousand families were offered Katrina refuge here, they turned it down.  Lol

Re:
What gets me are those that get flooded or burnt out here where I live and return to build new homes, but of course these are people that are either rich or famous or both

lustorlove and Rabbit, I don't think that I would have whatever it takes to return to a place to live after it was destroyed.  But, I guess one never knows for sure until they go through something like that.

what a mess those people have already experienced.
I don't even think I'd move back there after Katrina.
