Excuses
I admit it.  I am timid about calling myself a Liberal (though certain Blogit writers are not).  But, I am certainly a liberal in the tradition of Thomas Jefferson and David Hume.  I believe in the rights of the individual, and I oppose the concept of rule by Divine Right.  I also believe n the rule of law and transparency in government, which most conservatives don't.  They use the rule of law, and democracy, and other liberal inventions as tools to advance their agenda when convenient, then cast them aside at need.  That galls me.

On the other hand, I don't accept all of the current liberal agenda:  I oppose Affirmative Action, I have no use for Political Correctness, and I don't much like gag orders or other restrictions in campaign regulation.

But you're right.  Liberals deserve more recognition for their contributions to society.  Which is pretty much everything good about American society:  education, universal suffrage, scientific research, a free press, religious freedom, plus all those programs you list.  Maybe I am a liberal after all.

I dont really have a problem with "liberals" as long as they love the United States and wish to preserve its sovereignty. The liberals who created those benefits you listed certainly did.

Re: Xeno (Posted by cantey_1975)

probably not much different from the "change" most every politician, Democrat or Republican, who is not an incumbent, talks about.

Not that much difference in the change.

But you didn't address the issue here.  Without liberals, you would not enjoy many of the benefits you do.
