Engaging readers...
...would be the main focus of any improvement - which is, to my mind, more important even than grammar or vocabulary skills. Since I choose to write science fiction and nothing else, I find it a very satisfying challenge to try and come up with story ideas that are compelling and comprehensible on a regular basis - and on a site like this I can make out when a particular idea doesn't really have what it takes to keep readers interested!

I would have to say "Word usage and vocabulary ". But I also believe, just like everything in life, the more you practise something, including writing, the better you get. PRACTISE MAKES PERFECT,...oh, course.

I think "content" is much more important than all that other stuff...
One could write grammatically correct, in flowery language, but still nonsense!
