Mousehop, but Threshold IS a subsidiary of Simon and Schuster although they do keep it at arms length, for the reasons you have so aptly pointed out...

No, I shouldn't make that association, as I liked the book (Confederacy of Dunces), but . . .
Mary Matalin, former Bush administration person, is the "publisher" in charge of Threshold (per Timothy Noah, Slate Magazine), but all they let her do is say, "Yes, this trash will sell." Okay, I inserted the word "trash". Matalin just tells them what there is a market for. No one checks the truth of what they publish. No one takes responsibility for content; they just assume they'll clean up afterward if anyone objects. And this is marketed as "scholarship". Isn't America a great country?
