Absolutely
You are so right. There comes a point in life when you realize that happiness is what comes from within....you cannot wait for someone to come into your life and give it to you. I love the part about planting your garden to decorate your soul. Beautiful....

A strong poem and ...
... your repeatedly word 'learn' carries our source of development and possibilities as the core ... but, many times, it's more than hard. I fully agree when focusing on 'learning' -

I found "After a while" so beautifully written, and I, like many others I am sure can relate. But do we ever learn really? And does the hurt ever leave us.

My darlin' Sinome, this was as profound as any of your work I have read! The cadence was perfect and the refrain of after awhile was brilliant. for I would hope I personally would catch on after awhile. there have been people in the past that I thought it would be impossible to go on after they were out of my life but surprisingly enough after awhile it does get better. I was very affect by the message! Such a brilliant poetess!~ i am always excited to open your blog because I know I am going to receive grand imagery, imagery that stays with me! That is great poetry for me! Love you, sam

Very strong!
"After a while .../you learn the difference/between holding a hand and chaining a soul" - I have to wonder if my ex ever learned that. How many relationships have gone kaput for lacking this wisdom.

Who could say goodbye to you?
What a wonderful poem. I was imagining it as one of those poems that get read in the movies. Excellent!

Sinome
Although some days we would like to simply bask in the knowing, each day we learn something new about ourselves. Your poem refers to learning from the good-byes, but even while in the throws of a relationship we are maneuvering a constant learning curve. The person we say hello to at then end of each day varies, if only slightly, from the person we said hello to the day before. Self-nurturing is the best kind of nurturing as your poem so gracefully details.
