I agree, music is easy to listen to, but damn hard to play good. I've been trying to learn guitar since I was in my early twenties (that's 20 years ago) and I'm still nowhere near as good as I would like to be. I don't think somebody who has not learnt or at least tried to learn to play an instrument can appreciate the amount of practice most good musicians have to do to become proficient at their art.
