Although I was a nondescipt kid
at the time, I've lived through this kind of scenario in South Africa. The government of the day and their supporters all claimed to represent Christianity but the people who complained about their unjust treatment of others were labeled traitors, had their home phones tapped by the Security Police and were harassed by the normal Police too. We were even visited by the Security police and my brother was asked to spy for them and they also visited my father at his job (a commissioner of oath at the time). The present government there no longer claim to be Christian (They are supposedly completely secular) but from what I can gather the SOS is still doing the rounds under a new label.
