NiteTide, The worst snake scare I ever had was when I was chased in the woods of Missouri by a large blue racer snake.  They are very fast moving (thus the name).  When racing along the ground, it holds its head up and that one moved pretty darn fast.  I had surprised it and it became aggressive and it chased me about twenty feet (I was running as fast as I could) before it veered off into the bushes.  I thought I would die from fright.

Troosha
When I was a kid, we used to go to the woods and in a rocky area near the creek look under rocks for these.  We would catch the small ones and bring them home to play with.  My mother would have a fit.  They are ringneck snakes.

Oh Dear!  I'm so sorry, FineYoungSinger.  I didn't mean for that to happen.  I didn't want to drive you away.  Please come back.  Come Ba-a-a-a-ak, FYS, come back!

I like “tuning” into your walks – be them a glimpse into your life or an actual walk in your neighbourhood.  Yikes – the snakes!!! – If my darlin’ cat should ever bring any of them into the house (she's a heck of a hunter) , Mr. T. would certainly have me scooting it out the door.

Pat_B, I'd have to be mighty hungry before I would try eating rattlesnake meat, though I know that it is edible.

Talion, it makes me think of muser and her cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains where snakes had taken up residence in the attic and once in a while came below.  Remember muser?

That is the ugliest photograph I have ever seen. I would die of a heart attack upon view. I am about to write in my Believers post because this makes me think I must. I agree with Talion I would have to really love my things to even think of going back for them. Ohooooooooo.

The day I go out for an afternoon stroll and stumble upon a writhing pile of rattlesnakes is the day I move. I might go back and get my things.

Ok, I've seen tangled bundles of rattlers -- my favorite aunt used to have
a set of rattles tacked to the frame of her bedroom mirror. Eight rattles, she said there was one rattle for each year the snake lived, and this one was in the water bucket under the standpipe in the 1940s, eastern Washington desert country. She chopped it up with a hoe and kept the rattle as a trophy. They talked about making rattlesnake stew, but nobody had a recipe. Might have been short uncle Roy who said he liked the meat, "tastes like chicken."

Snakes on a plain??  Ok, sorry.  About Erikson - I studyed him in college as part of a hypnosis study.  But I'm much more familiar with Erik Erikson's Stages of Development!
