Vatican City owes its existence to indulgences and probably TONS of

people didn't have to suffer in hell as their families bought their way out of it all.

Ah, to have that back today, no?? I know some people who would pay and pay lots to save their creepy souls....as they would probably believe it to be true all over again...

Gomedoem, thank you.
'Indulgences', that is exactly what I was talking about. What a con game that was.

cantey
Since this is aimed at all believers, it is a post about Muslims as well. Not sure why you seem to feel there is nothing wrong with signaling out one religious group that you disagree with, even though the basic idea of their beliefs are the same as yours.  If anything it really is almost insulting that you seem to want me to write about a group I know little about and am not about to go off of all the propaganda that I keep seeing out there about them.  Much like Christianity, Islam is a very complex set of beliefs that has many of branches and has changed people's lives for the better.  Is that the kind of post you wish for me to write?  Most of the basic flawed ideas of religion I write about generally fits Islam as well as Christianity and since most of the time any more I use the term 'believers, that would mean that Muslims who fit into the category are as much part of what I am talking about as Christians, Jews or any other group that believes in God.

I do not discriminate it that fashion.

to answer your final question:
if they are true believers, the would not believe they can fool God.

still waiting for that post about Islam. I'll bet if you went through that book with a fine tooth comb you could find a few gems.

( if you have actually posted about islam then disregard)

Seems like all religions use the con tool to me.....or, at least, speakers

for various and sundry religions do so, or their followers do, oftimes....

I like the Brasilian old form of Catholicism which let you have a personal relationship with God, like a nephew or something....You could talk back and threaten and bribe and all sorts of human things and they believed that it all would have some 'good' effect. Amazing.

I like the Mexican's view, wheedling to a Diosito to ask favors....with a true affection for their little God. They name their family members after His, Maria, Jose and Jesus. I love the nickname for Jesus, Chuy, which seems so up close and personal.

Not quite the huge awe inspiring God promoted and spoken of by our tv evangelists and hellfire and brimstone kinda guys around here in the US.
