Thanks everyone - will update on Thursday as I'm in NYC tomorrow.
Was a fab experience though I was a lot quieter than I expected.  My hair is wonderful, color is good with some subtle auburn highlights that the camera won't pick up, and it's a soft, not too heavily sculpted, short layerd bob with razored bangs.

Cringe I loved this post.
Especially that you didn't mention the home cuts. Hairdressing and hair is a bit of pet theme of mine, and a recurring theme in my novel. I love my hairdresser.  She has a salon but works at home in her fabulous aparmtment kitted out with Versace accessories but with white sofas, plasmat tv, white walls. It is like going on holiday for an hour and a bit and i get to come out looking fabulous, and her at home rate is cheap.  Whenever i needed to find a hairdresser I just asked someone, even a complete stranger, where they got their hair done. Oh, and I have an idea for a hair publication. So I loved this. Talion is right too. Can't wait to read how it goes.

What are you worried about? You have a gimmick. You're from Ireland. Everyone knows someone who's Irish, but few know someone actually from Ireland. You'll be the highlight of their week.

It's you who should be writing the book...

Oh, Lassie, you've got the basis for a new musical in this adventure...

Can't call it "Mama Mia" that's been done. Or "Hairspray."  Maybe "Shamrocks and Scissors."  May the gentle wind be at your back as the split ends disappear... or would that give you a mouthful of fuzz?  Will you be posting "after" photos of your makeover?  :)pat

p.s. I think leaving a gratuity with the one at the payment desk will work. They probably have to split the tips.
