I am glad you are not going away -- I am sadden by your attitude toward

Christians and organized religion.   When I get the chance, I am going to create a new blog entitled, Why I Appreciate Organized Religion.    It may not be as poplular as yours, but as Martin Luther said, "Here I Stand, I Can Do No Other."

If we look at the really, really big picture
of the effects of Christianity on the world, historically
speaking, it is one long horror story whose linchpin
is hypocrisy. There is no argument against the folks like
poet3 who use individual cases as examoples of how belief
"saved" someone or other. I can find examples of how having
a pet, or a good teacher, or whatever, "saved" someone
from having a bad life. You can always find cases to
prove anything. But let's look at the big picture. Let's
look at the incredible damage done by missionaries who
in their arrogance, descend upon cultures that they know
NOTHING about but have determined that what ever these people
believe, it's wrong and they need to be "SAVED".

What missionaries bring is usually disease, confusion,
guilt, and a totally inappropriate lifestyle to the climate
and culture that they travel to. The missionaries drove
colonialism, they were the vanguard of this political thrust
and now withdrawal that has left the third world in ruin.

There is so much more in history about the cruelty and horrors
inflicted by Christians, but lets just jump to the crisis in
the church today brought by the sexual abuse scandals.
The Official Church still has it's perverbial head in the sand
and since throwing millions of dollars at people to buy their silence
didn't work, now they are hoping it will just fade away so
they can get back to their dirty little perversions.
