I never did watch any of The Sopranos.  Don't know why.  I did see The Godfather.
Actually, I've had several experiences with some Kansas City Mafia people in the past.  Even was threatened by one of my patients who wanted drugs for which he had no presciption.  "One of these nights," he sneered, "you are going to leave here at the end of your shift and you're going to run your head into a baseball bat.  I have friends...."
You might be interested in a story I wrote about my Dad, myself and the KC Mafia "Enforcer".   http://www.planetwriters.com/article/non-fiction/biography/the-honest-cop.html  (I'm BroseS at that site).

OK, Nautikos
I don't think in terms of french fries as I'm not a FFF (french fry fan).   Thank you for straightening me out.

Elyse~
My good friend "R" says, "...Actually if meth was being done there, then you're probably better off now than you were before when nothing was suspected.  It rarely takes place at the same site a second time."   He's probably right.

I'd agree with those who say it is probably
some sort of drug lab being busted. So many sad and silly people in the world today. I am watching The Sopranos. Watched all of the 13 episodes of the second series. WHEW!! Great for seeing how conflict is structured and learning about the crime syndicates and their doings. Is it based on reality I wonder?

The law in our state requires that we disclose any crime
committed on our property - you might check it out .. otherwise, you should be able to find out on your local police station's site.

Nautikos, Tomorrow I'm going to confront the manager.  But, she probably won't tell me the truth.  They are so afraid of losing tenants.  I can't believe they haven't found out what caused the fire in June.

Ciel, wouldn't it be fun if it was E.T.  LOL

You'd be surprised

where those drug houses pop up. My parents neighborhood got "raided" a few months ago--they brought in the full SWAT team and helicopters and everything! As it turns out, there was a major grow-op, just a few houses down the street. No space suits, as it was weed instead of meth.

And my parents live in an affluent area--we're talking a gated community with BMW's in the driveway of every house and a private golf course. But there were the drug dealers, making themselves right at home.

Hopefully the space suits were out in your neighborhood for something a bit less diabolical!

And best wishes for Sis--I'll keep my fingers crossed that all is well!

When I read your post, I thought, 'meth' - and then I find that many others thought of the same thing. Which is one indication how pervasive that problem has become - it's the first thing that comes to people's minds, it has become part of 'what everybody knows', part of the culture - and that's not a happy thought...

I'm wondering if there is any place left to evacuate to these days.  Everywhere seems to be messsed up with something or other.

Scary! I just read in my local paper where there was a mercury spill in my area. They had to evacuate and remove soil. Crazy mess. It could be marginal, I would think they would evacuate if it were a serious health threat! sam

Is that anywhere near Joshua Tree National Monument?  She loves that place and always hoped to retire there.

Re: Pat beat me to it Taps, but I'm sure a meth lab is what the fuss is all
Corbin_Dallas, Pat_B and vickip, now you all have me wondering if the fire in one of our buildings in June, that gutted six apartments (Go to Only One Thing Worse...) and this HAZMAT cleanup today have anything to do with each other.  Am I sitting in the middle of "Drug Land" or what?  A year ago people in one apartment in our building was evicted on the spot because someone noticed a marijuana odor and the drug sniffing police dog was called in.  Naive me thought that must be a one-time thing.  I love the woods and the lakes and all the big trees around here.  It is so pretty.  But is it hiding a bunch of druggies?

Taps, well there are various possible outcomes
How we see stuff always comes down to the stories we tell ourselves but even if the story is not a good one there can be hope in how people respond to the situation

we pray for healing - if I were in same condition - only one place I'd turn - credit card in hand for these treatments - We Care (health retreat) in desert hot springs, Ca.  My dear friend (owner founder) Susana Lombardi and her angel daughters will set a course of rejuvenation that will... create miracles (expensive maybe - worth it - definitely)   blessings be

Pat beat me to it Taps, but I'm sure a meth lab is what the fuss is all
about.  I've had many (well, not me personally), and they wear the haz-mat suits to clean it up.  They used to wear them in the eighties to do asbestos abatement - then the novelty of paying $10,000 per 1 bedroom apartment wore off and we told the residents not to touch drive hooks into the ceiling.  But I digress... how unusual is that?

Oh, cripes, I'm echoing Corbin again. -- he could be right...
If it's really serious and secret, you'll never know. If it's common crap, it'll be in the local news.

posted by Pat_B on July 29, 2008 at 3:49 PM | link to this | reply

It's probably a meth lab. Lots of that in unexpected kitchens...

Do they have to use such equipment.....
when dealing with a meth lab???

I share your trepidation. But it is better to know.

Maybe it's something as simple as dealing with a mold problem.  When getting rid of mold they have to dress from head to toe.  Keep us posted, though....

Prayers to Sis also, for only good news for a good long time.

Re: Ewww that is scary
Hmmm, Bel.  You gave me something else to imagine about.  I hadn't thought of asbestos.  If it were there, it would be here too.  I think I'll walk up to the Office and have a little talk with someone pretty soon.  Right now I got a pot cooking on the stove.

Ewww that is scary
Any chance you can call the health department and find out if you should be concerned for your own well being?   Do they use hazmat suit when working with asbestos maybe???
