Re: it's prompted me to add this Anne person to my list of books to buy
Wise decision, Sira -- both of these excellent writers will be good mentors for your talent. You might find Annie Proulx's work at the library, make it a "try before you buy" thing.

Re: pat b, Like naut I loved The Shipping News
I liked the movie, and read the book later -- the film was fairly close to the book, but Quoyle was supposed to be a big ugly hulk of a guy. I thought Kevin Spacey's performance was excellent as character study, but he's not huge or repulsive...

Pat
You did narrow the field, and say she may be the best writer of this generation. As opposed to saying she's the best writer to ever walk the earth, which would obviously be a gross exaggeration...
Your review was fantastic--it's prompted me to add this Anne person to my list of books to buy (along with the Hitchhikers Guide, of course!).

Re: The first line kept me away from reading this one.
Sorry
Angesom, you missed a fairly good review.

Now here's a challenge -- go ahead and read something Ms. Proulx has written and then tell me the name of someone who does it better. Thanks for visiting... :)pat

You're right
Naut -- and somehow I just can't get the hang of speed reading. Lucky thing words are low calorie...

Just now Pat I'm going through a really strange phase. I am full of
stuff to write but I can't seem to pick up a book and get interseted. And this is she who has read everyday of her life that she can remember.
I'll blame it on all the good stuff I read here.
