Luz, I also found Nosferatu especially creepy!
There was a movie a few years ago that was a story around the filming of that, with the notion that the actual vampire was hired to play the part.
It is quite a compliment, to achieve that level of horror here!
I wanted to get back to the classic vampire, the monster with nothing of hidden goodness or angst about it. My vampire is the embodiment of mankind's fear of the night, of the darkness, and that's all! It is an evil, plain and simple.
But keep an eye on that Padrone... He is not necessarily what he seems entirely. It was a recent revision to reveal more of the relationship there--What is it he wants of her? What do you think, based on what you've read so far?

Ceil, you are gifted
with a fantastic visual imagery. your attention to visual detail is as good as the historical ones. I'm predicting something great; a return to the lurking vampyrs of old, pre-Hollywood.
One of my favorite films is the original Nosfertu, and much of what makes it a truly creepy story is captured in this story as well. The fact that these creatures are not human. also, the details you leave out are effective as well. the relationship between Columbina and the Pardone, for example...(shudders). this is stellar work, haha.

ooh - i feel the pace
setting to a somethings coming
We bring none here but bring them in,
Nor show a bit, but show them all.
No tales need we of wandering kin
To hasten enemies to this Hall.
