Re: Luz!
I apprecaite your enthusiastic response so much!
The feedback of what you particularly like is great, and I hope you will keep telling me as you find things that really appeal to you-- or confuse, or creep you out... I have tried to make certain bits really creepy, but if a love scene creeps you out, that isn't so good!

Ciel!
i must say, this is one of the best, if not The Best, vampyr-awakening scene i've ever read. and i have read plenty of these kind of scenes. your choice of literary devices are pitch-perfect. one of my favorite examples is how the Padrone becomes 'it' instead of 'he.' i loved the scene of darkness as well, as it was described so beautifully. i am definately going to enjoy the rest of this!

TAPS, I wondered if it would be...
I see you as a lady-like kind of lady, and my gal is no kind of lady--yet! I will not be at all offended if you don't read, I truly do appreciate your encouragement and enthusiasm for my writing if not my subject!
I can tell you without getting into spoilers, the horrific bits and characters are not what the story is about. They are window-dressing, the stage-set. They are the metaphor to convey the message, and the message is something I believe you would be at home with. The message is about humanity. Not the people, but the defining quality. What is humanity, and who has it, and who can have it, or who can't? Once given up, can it ever be regained? If one has never had it, can it be learned or won? It is also about redemption: is there redemption for someone who even believes himself damned?
All the rough stuff, the nasty characters, are metaphors for the monsters we have to defend our own humanity from. But there are also some characters who represent the other side of the coin: the sources of strength and encouragement available to us, including faith and love, and unseen sources of great blessings.
How I do go on... I am firming up my thoughts as I write--how to describe this thing, if I ever have to again, to an editor, say... So thanks for being there to stimulate me, as you so often do!
