I am afraid, though, that there is a dearth of even costly imagination. Or rather, people pay a lot of money for the unimaginative.

I think the whole country could benefit from it, if we don't let rank prejudice get in the way. We need to clear away the whole sorry story from the "Chinese Exclusion Act" onwards. Title 8 needs to be erased from the United States Code, if only for the racist titles of its "omitted" sections.
