eeuugh Taps, I don't know how anyone can eat in the toilet - and I hate when you go into a restroom and someone is talking on their mobile phone while going to the loo LOL - or maybe I'm just old-fashioned..

Part of the problem is our lifestyles. We stuff ourselves with calories, but do little to burn them off. Everything is geared towards ease and convenience, to get as much "done" without lifting too many fingers. In the next few decades, I doubt we'll have to leave our homes if we don't want to.

Another ten out of ten for this post! There is no doubt that we have a truly critical situation on our hands. Just from personal experience as a regular gym rat, I see bodies that are well, bizarre...And these are the people that are making at least a bit of an effort. Good thing I don't see the others! It's a huge problem, pun fully intended, lol...
And I agree with Troosha's very perceptive comment. This is not just a 'disease' in itself, it's the symptom of another 'disease'...

more carrots! >:-)
actually, I have two pet bunnies and the truth of it is you aren't supposed to feed them too many carrots - carrots are fattening! They have a lot of starch. A little bit of carrot now and then is ok. This is like us - if we would just eat and drink in moderation things would be fine. Any food is ok if it is eaten in moderation, or in the right proportion.

I remember when I was little I very rarely got desert on a regular basis. A trip to the ice cream store occurred MAYBE once a month unless we were picking up slushy drinks. Now a days, desert appears to be a major food group. Sad.

Now you may think this is a bit of a stretch but I
think over eating is a result of societal disconnect. Even within a family, family members are not truly engaged
with one another. So food.. becomes
a means of escaping and perhaps even momentarily feeling at peace oneself; camouflage
the loneliness. And then, of
course, there’s the issue of hurried lives and the fast-food solution. Now there’s a huge culprit when it
comes to obesity. (But don’t
get me goin’ on that one…)

Shut the f**k up!!! This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard ..
well, except for Viagra ads. How lazy can a nation of parents be??? What sort of doctor would even prescribe cholesterol for an eight year old?? "Medication for high cholesterol is now given to children as young as eight years old."

Food: it's not just for survival any more.
I guess we're finding out that greed really is a deadly habit.

We eat because we can...
because it's fun, because we are bored, because we are constantly bombarded with the visual images that trigger our impulse to eat.
I once took notes on what kind of commercials were thrown at us from the tv over the period of a day. I forget the numbers, but a huge percentage are food--especially fast food and fattening, unhealthy food--commercials.

I've just been writing about a similar issue in my
BookMark blog. we seem to be so terrified of not doing the right thing that we do the wrong thing and just hide behind the need for 'support.'

Yeah, I think it happens when the world makes things easier for us and not harder. Fast food, as an example: Come on, everyone's tempted, especially when he's/she's tired, to get fast food for its convenience. Things are becoming TOO easy for us...and even if it is an animation, if you watch Wall-E, a new pixar movie, you will find that they have pinpointed where our world is going to like a T. It's sad really....

I think we eat becasue we are bored and not mindful about what we are doing. Thsi extends to all aspects of our life and food is one of them.

Yours are always well written posts but this is exceptionally well done and I love the photo and art. I don't think it is all food as much as what is in our food; particularly meat, milk and poultry. It is incredible what they lace it with.

I love this post, TAPS...
...C. S. Lewis once referred to "men without chests."
A time when mankind would be distinguished by appetite only...no heart...and his mind would be geared only to the gratification of his stomach i.e. appetites.
I fear we have reached that point in history.

So true Taps~ It's amazing how much food we can consume in one day. I think I'm going to go back to a journal for what I eat daily. (beginning with tomorrow...) ~ I heard a report of a study they want to start doing on our children, as young as infants...testing for levels of cholesterol - linking to obesity...it's just a whole big mess we have here.

I think I'll go to bed now and forego that truffle I've been staring at all day -
