I believe your "promise or prayer" idea reflects beautifully this inspirational poet's work. She is a rarity among poets -- a best selling one. Her themes are about nature, about peace and spirit. Keep writing,

On the lap of my story I’d carry on for the unfinished chapters ... That was most definitely my favourite line.  What an enchanting, introspective piece!

Beautiful poem.

And .. poetry for me is an emancipated way of expression in what so ever way (old or new rules don't matter to me) .. it's what the poet is trying to say that matters .. in which creative manner does not matter at all .. i'm not looking for those stuck-ups who wanna have everything their way .. i like the creative soul that understand the real .. learn from others but don't copy.
