TAPS, I have never had this type of luck to come upon a true treasure in these thrift stores/garage sales. I would say you found a real piece of gold here. I love that chef too Taps...I literally went right to him when I uploaded this pic ~ Thanks so much for your blog~

Lovely story and a nice purchase.I fear I have your same sentiment for such. I do have yard sales about once every seven years. I do have treasures of my own I need to get rid of. Mine have always been very successful.

hahaha, ignore my email lmao. cheugon emailed me to ask if I knew what happened to you, we both thought all your blogs were gone, but alas, we didn't add the period after your name when searching for you. Shelly_b helped us out with it ... so ... nevermind!

I once purchased an authentic vase from the Ming Dynasty for two-dollars...
...and then sold it at auction for $600,000 and then quit my job and travelled the world for ten years.
And I gotta tell ya, TAPS, it was the most pleasent dream I ever woke-up from!
Great job on the picture, by the way.

This is absolutely enchanting, both your description of Lasserre, and this poster! And of course, this whole post makes me smile on other grounds as well - you're obviously not against yard sales
in principle, but against the
dross usually offered there! You're clearly delighted to find the pearls...The problem is, of course, that most of us cannot stand the tedium of the search...

So much interesting ınformation ın this post that I hardly know where to strat to comment. I also dıslike the "rubbısh sales" as I call it, the only exception being second hand desıgner clothes shops ın Europe where you can get amazing genuıne stuff at a fraction of the price, my favorite being a Luıs Vuıton really old suıtcase, lovıngly preserved. What intrıgued me was your voodoo doll. I am very interested ın voodoo, santerıa etc, it actually features ın my latest novel- as yet unfınıshed. Lastly I wish to thank you for your comments and for liking my pıcs. Greetings from hot, hot Turkey!!

Taps,
I hear ya totally about the garage sales and such. I don't want other peoples' crap anymore than I want or need my own. But, like you said, sometimes you may find something that appeals to you. I'm sure some of my stuff that I don't want anymore would be a cool thing to others. I'm just too lazy to have a garage sale!!

Some gems can be found. Like multi-million dollar 'lost' manuscripts stuck in old furniture, or priceless paintings. In fact there are companies who come and search your basement and attic for saleable junk. Many surprises have been unearthed. In my world, I have bought a few things that I needed...like a turntable that plays vinyl records at 45 and 78 RPMs!

Well, you found something!
It's not always true that if somebody does't want something, neither should you. You never know what you may find.

What a lovely find.
Maybe you could get it appraised. Authentic posters from the '20s are valuable, although what it means to you is beyond price. Thanks for sharing this delight. :)

That IS the reason why we keep on going to these otherwise full of crap places: for the little hiding treasure that bring back good memories. Tschüs.

I agree dear Taps, there is always a treasure tucked underneath those files of old stuffs. I've had some experiences myself.

TAPS.
Hello Taps. I enjoy yard sales, but I seldom go to the Goodwill Stores. I do really like that vintage poster you found. If I'd been there before you, I betcha I would have purchased it before you had a chance to see it.
Hah-hah It is a neat poster, Taps. Enjoy it!

I'm sure I would rank up there with your sister in going
to enough sales that you don't have to. But I'm so glad you
found something that moved you so. You just don't
know what you might find.

OMW!!! I LOVE THAT PICTURE .... I would have bought it whether
I had a memory attached to it or not! I collect all things cherubic ... my favorites are my tumbling angels ... anyway, that is a wonderful picture! I was all excited about the "l
ike truffle salad, grilled foie gras of duckling served with a confit of green apples, and Chablis-flavored Belon oysters." ... until I saw the picture .. just awesome!
