Sadly, Nothing
I wrote a letter to the editor about just this topic a few months ago. The homeless in Hawaii are being pushed out of every single place they lay their heads at night. There is one homeless shelter that I am aware of on the entire island, and they cannot possibly house all the homeless we have.
Recently, the State removed all benches from one square downtown because the homeless would sleep on them at night. So now, the college students in that area have nowhere to sit between classes, and the homeless have had to find somewhere else to lay their heads at night.
All the State wants to do is get rid of the homeless--so they do everything they can to acheive that goal. They don't think that removing their sleeping areas is not solving the problem. They don't realize that they need to give these people a place to sleep not take these places away.
