Ciel, is this something you make or buy?  I'd love to give it a try.

Spray cilantro around the house, and I will never swarm you!

WOW, never thought ~ thanks for the suggestion.  I wonder if this would work with 'scorpions' ~  ... I love the smell of garlic so but, how 'bout spraying some 'thyme' or some other natural spritz to bring you a aromatic type appeal? ~ Elyse

heres what you do....
Right..listen up...I have given this serious consideration......wash the garlic off because it with only start to smell worse and worse! Get the cough drops and put them on the kitchen floor and let the ants enjoy themselves, then each day move it further and further towards the deck or the garden until you have trained them into leaving the house for good. They clearly have some sort of residual memory for where the food was as they went back to the cough sweet site even after you had removed them! Arghhh yes...I think we have a plan! Jolly good....good luck!xx

The thing is, ants leave scent trails, coded messages other ants can read.
It's also how they find their way back to the colony. Like the Seven Dwarfs singing their "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work we go," the ants follow those crumbs of scent... wait a minute, I've mixed my cartoon myths...  Anyway, your garlic has broken their code, they've lost their map. Be alert for scouts.

Hey Taps - you have to learn to embrace your
inner Italian chef!! Garlic is the linchpin of a perfect meal - and must stay in the air for days!

God Taps, Napoleon would have hired you on the spot as field marshall and his successors might still be ruling France! As a Corsican he was  certainly used to garlic smell. Poor you, now you have to wear a gas mask. You can´t win, can you?

This is hilarious, but also useful, at least to me! I have finally discovered what Vicks Cherry Cough Drops are good for - ant food!

TAPS, Only you could make me laugh describing the invasion of ants. ~Peace, OTA

Did they travel down the Kings highway ond did not turn to the left or to the right!? lol Have you checked your horrorscope (or was it an omen) at the epic poem. I shared your story with my brother and we laughed so hard. It was too precious we were standing in front of the microwave! Have a great evening!  sam

TAPS, this line made me laugh:
Even though I listened closely, not one tiny cough did I hear. LOL  The ants come and go...they are gone here, too...oh and no matter how clean you keep things, they show up it seems

How funny. I must remember that solution
My son was cooking for me a while back. He is a teen and he was following the recipe,

and asked me to check. Good thing too because he was meant to add a clove of garlic

and had a clump ready to go in.

That is good to know and it can't smell too garlicky for me. I have always had a simple cucumber slice to work. Really clever post, fun I enjoyed it.

Auslander, ground habanero peppers work well when blood hounds are baying at your heels in chase.     I learned that from the movie, "The Defiant Ones" with Sidney Poitier and Tony Curtis, way back when...

WOW! Who would have thought that ants and vampires had something in commun? At least you won that battle but, as for wining the war, you might need something more potent than garlic. I think chili peppers are stronger, but, would they work on vampires and ants? LOL Tschüs.

LOL, Hilow.  I'm so thankful for small favors.

You might be surprised, lustorlove.  One tiny drop of tooth paste gel, would get them going.  Who knows what else you have in there.  LOL

Re: Hilow stole my wisecrack! I must dig deeper...
Ciel, If I got close enough to see their fangs, I would have probably heard them coughing.  LOL

Can you see their tiny little teeth?  Fangs a bunch!

Taps
No ants.  Hooray!  And you probably don't have to worry about a vampire invasion either!    Maybe all is well that ends well.
