I bet your feet were tiptoeing to touch the ground, Pat. Isn't that type of hope and the realisation that you still have it so exhilarating?

Re: I love the possibilities
Hi
Sira890, you always make thoughtful comments. I'm really loving it that you all took this as autobiographical and real -- my attempt at first person, present tense fiction -- and it worked. Thank you!

Re: "I would have run off with him."
sam444: I might have too when I was younger. But these days, single and free to do and think what I want, it would take a really perfect guy to get me to share a bathroom. :)

Re: LOL, Pat! "you never told us about Fred"
Naut, this was fiction, my attempt to write something first person, present tense. Now that you bring it up, the Fred character sounds a little like my ex.

Attagirl, Pat
I never noticed if any of my classmates had a crush on me, but I have to admit a few passing flutters myself lol.

I love the possibilities
The idea that you don't even have to take the leap--just the fact that you have the option is enough to calm an inner crisis, make you realize that you at least have the option to run away and start again!

A lot of newness here. Nice post. I think you are right it is the children. 21 years may be a great gap. I met and married a George almost 25 years ago who is 14 years younger than I and he is perfect still. My children were grown up and away from home. Good luck on your new ventures.
