- Go to CONFESSION OF A BLOGGER ABOUT FUTILITY OF MARRIAGES
Afzal
Marriage is none of these things....or all of these things...depending on one's perception.
Nothing stays constant, everything changes. If we don't change with the times, then we are flowing against the current.
In my opinion, marriage has nothing to do with society (except the legal aspect that you are entitled to nothing if your significant other dies and you are not married), and nothing to do with other people at all, unless you are so incorporating it.
It is something that is between two people (and God if they believe or it is so chosen). It is a commitment and a way of life between those two people.
Any rules or such should be made within the relationship, upon the agreement of both parties.
A marriage is what you make it.

question
You wrote this in the "present tense," implying that all these things are true
today, but in the last paragraph you said these rules and prejudices are not followed anymore.
To speak precisely, it has never been necessary for a man and woman to marry before living together, although in many societies they would be subject to social stigma and possible punishment. I know even today there are some countries where young women are killed even for talking to men.

Afzal, I am inclined to believe that marriage these days is just a
piece of paper, nothing more and nothing less; thanks for sharing your thoughts, have a good weekend and God bless
