I'm with King on this
Americans need to start actively searching out alternative fuel sources--we all do, for that matter. And since necessity is the mother of invention, it only makes sense that having higher gas prices would prompt some real efforts in finding those new resources.
Gradual is the key here, I think--a steady increase over time. Something that would allow the people time to adjust and change their schedules, and get used to walking to the store instead of driving.
On that note, I think I'll take a drive over to the 7-11
PS--Kooda, I really don't like Obama or what he stands for. This is one of few issues that I think he got right.

RSM, Here in America we waste too much fuel. We can conserve and keep
the budget. I was never more pleased than when I saw my daughter begin to conserve and ride-share, walk and cut trips. We all can do that. Unfortunately, in a free market economy, no one stops to think about the environment until it's too late, or until it hurts.

With Obama's tax plan it is 250k that is the key
amount. I am unsure why you are using 55k to 75k as your example. Those who
are making that level should be unaffected by Obama's plans, or gain by them. Everything Obama
has been saying is about giving the middle and lower class a break.
As for the gay marriage issue, he has said he does
not believe in it although he is all for civil unions. Also, he did not the
support the Federal Marriage Amendment as
well as other such actions to try and federally define marriage as being just
between a man and a women, so he has shown that he will not try to get laws
pushed against gay marriage but will instead allow the states themselves to deal
with this issue, which is how it should be. Basically he has expressed his
opinions about gay marriage, but is not going to try and force his views about
that on others. That is the kind of thing he does to earn my
respect.
Onto the Iran issue there. The key is 'If the
make a wrong move'. If Iran actually shows itself to be a threat, then we need
to go in. Just like we needed to go into Afghanistan after 9/11. Which would
have worked great if we actually went after Bin Laden and is his people, who
attacked us. No one in the whole world thought we were out of line for doing
that. Now when Bush decided to mess things up and go into Iraq before we were
finished in Afghanistan, especially when there was no direct threat and had been
no direct action against us, basically Iraq had made not 'wrong move', that
caused problems.
Now of course we can go into a whole long
thing about being proactive in order to keep our country safe and if that was
really the case or not with Iraq, but we've done that dance already and there
really is nothing of value in bringing all that up again.
Personally Iran is more likely to become a threat
now because they know our military is spread thin and we would have a hard time
getting it all together well enough to be able to deal wit them if they crossed
a line. It may be that we will have to just bomb them because we have no other
choice thanks to being stuck in Iraq and Afghanistan like we are.
I am more for common sense thinking as well as
upholding the ideas of freedom and following the guiding concepts that are found
in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights above worrying about things being
'liberal' or not. While I have been labeled a liberal, just because that seems
to be the way my thinking leans, it does not mean that I have to follow all the
stereotypical liberal ideas.
The reason I am going to vote for Obama and am very
much supporting him is not because on any labels such as 'liberal' or 'democrat'. I truly believe he is the better
man for the office and that he will make changes that this country truly needs.
So for I have only voted for a democrat for president once and that was because
I wanted Bush out of office more than I wanted Kerry to win. But with Obama I
really think he is what this country needs right now.

Re: RSM, I can only hope that you learn from my example here
I can only hope that this is what he would do if elected. I hope that he would not determine a family who has an income from 55k-75k rich. Not that those numbers are poor by any stretch of the imagination. I really do not think any of us have an honest idea of what it is like to be dirt poor. My parents lived during the Great Depression at the ages of 7-12 during that period. They remember what it is like to be dirt poor. IF Obama is elected, I hope that he will give us the middle class a break. This remains to be seen.
Two other issues that Obama has made his stances known are:
1. He is against gay marriage.
2. He is for attacking or bombing Iran and others if they make the wrong moves.
Your ideas on this Kooka? You must admit that these do not sound like a liberal. Do they? I would be very interested in your response.

RSM, I can only hope that you learn from my example here
And try to write such comments yourself in reply to
my posts. If we BOTH try we can be civil to each other, but such a thing has to
come from both sides to work.
If Ocala's plan are carried out he will
practically eliminate income tax for low income America and basically create a
system that will greatly benefit the working class. Only
Americans earning more than $250,000 a year will be directly effected by the tax
cuts expiring. The extra tax money would then go into programs to ease
the needs of the working class be supplementing health care prices and such.
This of course will allow the working class to have more disposable income,
which has historically been a very important factor is a healthy economy. The
more disposable income the working class has, the better the whole of the
economy is.

Re: I don't 'believe' in a politician
This is the best reply you have ever writtten here on blogit. You stated facts, stated your stance and not once did you go on the attack and calling people's names. I commend and applaud your response.
So I will respond by saying that I do not agree because I feel that Obama's tax proposals will affect more of the middle class than many expect. They say that middle class is classified monetarily between 40k-100k per year. I have heard variations on these numbers. I am around the center of that range and expect I will be affected by Obama's taxes. Only time will tell.
Again thank you for a well written rebutal. Excellent reply and thought prevoking!

I don't 'believe' in a politician
That is really nothing close to anything I said
here. I believe that Obama is the better choice fro president. Although I have
admitted that this time instead of voting against someone (Like I did in 2004
against Bush), I am voting for someone who I think is going to be what this
country needs.
If you actually look at the facts, Obama is not
going to introduce any new business taxes. He will let the Bush tax cuts lapse,
and according to the top economist that will have little impact on how
businesses are running.
Now if those tax cuts actually did what they were
suppose to do, I might be side with you. They were suppose to be used to
increase the working class wages and benefits. But instead what we have seen is
a decrease in the average working class pay at a time when so many companies
started to report record profits. That tells me that the tax cuts did nothing
at all to help the working class. All that happened was the tax cuts were put
into the bottom line profits to artificially inflate stock prices and give some
CEOs bigger bonuses.
Now Obama has gone and worked on legislations that
is more along the lines of what these tax cuts should have been. Basically he
has put into action tax cuts that are rewarded to companies who actually are
helping to build up the US economy. He seems to believe that you don't give
blanket tax cuts, but you reward companies who are home based in the US and are
doing their part to help the US working class. That is the kind of thinking I
want in the next president. Not someone who is going to follow with what has
been shown to not be helping this country out over the last eight
years.

Re: You are so clueless
You do not believe in God but you believe in a politican. Amazing. Even I am skeptical of Republicans as well. Geesh man you need help!Once Obama taxes businesses, I am sure they will be so happy to be encouraged by him to do something. Right, pal. Dream on in your little liberal fantasy world. We need a man not some inexperienced chap!

Re:
God, I love Quakers! Thanks and I could not agree more. You would think a Democrat would proclaim that they will STOP the high price of gas but he simply states he desired it to be gradual. Is this a solution? The guy simply has no substance. I am not saying that McCain has a lot but he certainly has more experience than Obama.

You are so clueless
Obama makes sense here. What he says is true. We
would have been better off with a gradual increase than the sudden jump if gas
was going to get this high anyway. How can anyone with half a brain not
understand such a simple truth?
And what is wrong with encouraging? What is wrong
with thinking?
Yes, we know Bush does not think before he acts.
Yes we know that Bush does not worry about the consequences of his actions. And
Bush clearly does not care at all about the needs of the people. You continued
defense of Bush clearly shows the real reason you dislike Obama.
He will be everything Bush is not, which is what we
need.
He is going to not make rash decisions that are
going to hurt this country. Instead his is going to think about what he is
doing and in the end do what is right and best for the people of this country.
So far that seems to be what his is using as the driving force behind his
campaigning. He is saying he will think and then act so that there is
improvement for all.
Of course we have McCain who so far has said he
will just follow up doing everything Bush had been doing and not really stop to
think about it all. He wants to keep on this great path that is driving prices
up and wages down while encouraging Big Businesses to help keep prices up and
wages down.

I am troubled by this thought. It is like we expect things to go about astronomically and accept it. And for the life of me, lawyers represent and fight to prove this case or my FAVORITE plea bargain. I am lost! sam
