I asked a friend's mother why she didn't write something down.

She waved her hand vaguely backward and said that it had all been said, written, illustrated before her and during her lifetime. She was an extremely intelligent reader and correspondent.

I believe that age brings this thinking to us, to prepare us, way down the road of life, to let it all go, as done and finished and nothing more to add to.
