Now that Wiley is a little better I hope to be around and about more often
although I must get back to the Tom Ugly story too.
As to this guy, looks like a good wash wouldn't hurt himself.

Ariala,
You are making my point, sort of round about. Fossil fuels are the only viable resource readily available to power this machine that we call civilization. I am talking radically rethinking how we will bridge the void and allow the masses to survive the transition. There will be a lot of people left out with the solutions you cite.

Change will come slowly - but it will come
I just bought a Prius after driving a gas hog for 10 years. My new car gets 3X the mileage as my old car did. Last summer I wrote an article about The Science Barge in New York City - a retrofitted barge/working "farm" with hydroponic greenhouses powered by windmills and solar panels. This was a prototype for urban rooftop vegie gardens which has a duel purpose. The greenery on the roof cools the building in the summer and can concievably supply all the people living within with nearly 100% of their veggie needs for the year. You are right - there are so many bright people working on environmental solutions!

Glennb, I totally disagree with you...that's like saying there's no
alternative to white bread, eating meat or some other crazy notion. There are PLENTY of other alternatives and people are developing them daily...Can you imagine if scientists way back when maintained the attitude that there was nothing new to invent? We may not have electricity, AC, DC, quantum physics and so many conveniences including toasters, washing machines and etc. There is ALWAYS a better way and that's part of taking care of the planet, my friend. I recommend you read this article I wrote:

Ariala,
There are no technology alternative to fossil fuel! It is too late in its life cycle to consider a replacement! We must face that reality and rethink how we will live on this Planet when it is depleted?

Auslander,
There is no such thing as an electric cars. It is sort of a mis-information trick. Battery powered would be a better description. Not as sexy, but it would more accurately describe the problems inherent with applying the technology to vehicles?

I keep telling Mr.T I want one of these but he just laughs at me and says "You'll never drive around on one of those". I think I would though....

Nautikos, some people can't ride bikes...personally, last time I got on a
bike, I almost got hit by a car...this happened several times and eventually I sold my bike. It was too dangerous...plus, I wouldn't want to ride 14 miles to work one way and 14 miles back home...yes, I may get in shape, but when it's 100 degrees out in the summer and -19 in the winter, I say give me another choice!

There used to be, not that long a go, cars that were not that expensive and that you could refill at home: electric cars. But you know what they did with them, don:t you?! Too efficient and reliable, they were not going often enough to the mechanics and the petroleum companies didn;t like that either. They had to scrape them all. So, now, back to square one. Tschüs.
PS:I am using a German keyboard and have to look at every b...y letter!
