division

Divison is quite natural among humans. Money tends to hang around money instead of no money. Jocks will hang around jocks, Catholics around Catholics, leftists around leftists and so forth. They will most likely have more in common and there is no reason for people who have less in common to try to force something.

Race and culture is another difference among us right down to the shade. India has their caste system, and light blacks and dark blacks have their problems and often white folks prefer a tan as opposed to being pasty. So if a Japanese girl brings home an American sailor the parents will probably frown and if the cop who shot the black was white it will make the blacks angrier than if the cop was black. Case closed.

However we're all dependent on cooperation to survive. We all want  a comfortable life and this means cooperation, trade, negotiations etc. This means all differrences whatever they're based on will get put aside.

I agree when in a sense you feel racism is an extension of anti-social behavior to begin with.

As for "hatred" it is actually a valid emotion that usually occurs when a person feels threatened. Some people feel threatened when the clock is on one, others when the clock is around ten and twelve is war. I suppose some humans never feel threatened and others feel they see a threat before there may even be one.

So during the day we cooperate as individuals and then go home to our particular social tribe be it artists, white, hispanic, rich or poor. This is quite normal judging from the world.

Actually I mean't to say would the white racial police permit olympics in apartheid SA since they're not complaining about China too much. It's irrevlevant I guess.

Anyway thanks again for your in-depth post.

Hate and Racism
How can I not comment (at length) when you touch on a subject dear to my heart.  Being born and bred in South Africa, the issue of racism is as much a part of life as breathing.  The reality is also never as simple as:  This person is a racist and that person is not.  There are many racists in South Africa (and obviously elsewhere) amongst asians, blacks, coloreds, whites and whatever other combination or labeling system you can dream of.  For instance:  From what I can gather from many "colored" people I have had conversations with is that they often have a perception that they were too black in the old SA and are now too white in the new SA.  Some whites hate anyone non white while some only hate blacks or coloreds or asians.  The same goes for any other category in any combination you can get.  Personally I prefer to treat each person on his/her person rather than generalize according to whatever criteria.  Some people only pretend to hate when in the company of haters and some only pretend not to hate in that kind of company.  The urge to fight against anything or anyone who differs from your perceptions about them and yourself is a very human trait.  If you break it down further, you find that those prone to hate another race are also more prone to hate someone of their own race but of a different family or political affiliation or religion etc.  Some people have nothing about themselves to be proud of, but their difference from others.  Another form of racism, which to my mind is the most self deceptive of the whole lot, is to hate the groups or tribes you perceive to be racists.  Fact is, there are people of all races and tribes who are more prone to hatred of any kind and there are those of all races and tribes who are more prone to have a will to live with and amongst anybody in peace and who are loving-kind by nature.  In my opinion it is hatred of whatever kind that we need to eliminate or at least minimize if we want a peaceful co-existence.  Then racism and all other kinds of prejudice and discrimination will fall away naturally.
