- Go to GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I STUCK MY HAND DOWN THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL?
You and millions others, Ariala, have that same fear. These worst case
scenario fears come at you from all directions, the irrational idea that your car will suddenly go over an embankment or plow into an abutment, that the elevator will get stuck for hours between floors, that the guy next to you will suddenly pull a gun and begin shooting. These fears are triggered by the preventive processes of our brain. They are overcompensatory defense mechanisms that heighten our awareness, and usually for good reason. The more aware and diligent we are, the less likely something bad will happen to us.

shelly, I remember that episode of Frasier...haven't watched the YouTube
but I figure it's the one where Niles turns on the blender and Frasier screams (or vice versa) cause he has his hand in the disposal LOL

You wouldn't catch me sticking my hand in a garbage disposal for anything. I'd get someone else to do it for me. LOL

shelly, I didn't want the disposal to eat it up and scare the crap out of
me with the noise (later on), so I took it out and threw it away...should have thrown it outside to the bunnies

I can sooo relate to this...
...because in my line of work, I stick my hand down kitchen sink drains to remove the debris that clogged them up, after I've used my trusty disposal wrench to unjam them.
After twenty-three-years, I still imagine exactly the scenario that you mentioned.
I can't remove my hand fast enough when I'm done.
