Benzinah, I LOVED your last line "The freedom to wander like a coyote with no real place to go." That was beautiful. I love it when you find pieces of my writing and bring it back to me;-)

cynthia, smells are triggering memories all the time now for me.

Rain, wet ashpalt, creosote bushes, wet dogs, barbequed neighbor's grills, wood in a fireplace, wet earth in a shady spot, grasses, etc.

I wandered the deserts like you wandered your areas and I was alone and free and had nothing to do but ponder over this little thing picked up or that little thing turned over with a toe.

Thanks for reminding me that this is happening more lately and that I should hesitate with it, hold it, that memory, a moment longer and then return to life.

I miss my childhood, that part of it, enormously. The freedom to wander like a coyote with no real place to go.
