You are right
I can't seperate loving our fellow man (some of you call this doing good works) from having a relationship with God.
They go hand in hand, it's like a circle love God, love your fellow man.
We cannot be a judge of why someone else is doing good works, God will judge that.
So doesn't it make a discussion of why people do good kinda moot.

You are right. Works don't make salvation.
I John passage "How can a man love God whom he does not see if he does not love his brother whom he can see?"
Relationship with God is reflected by our actions toward others.
