I like that:   FAMILY COMES FIRST! How right you are! Don't let me forget it. Thanks  Andy

Priortize, jump in, and
give it your best shot.  By this I mean give priority to what is most important for the survival and well-being of your family (or yourself, if single).  Playing catch with Johnny or letting your wife know how much she means to you might be more important than your job.  Don't waste to much time wondering what the hell you are going to do -- jump in and do what you've determined to be most important.  Give it your best shot without fear of failure.  Pulling an all-nighter might help, but is to be avoided if at all possible.  Just do the best you can without forgetting what is most important to your humanity.

When I'm behind on my work,
I tell my son to do his homework.  If I let him slack off too much, I slack off too.  Now, of course, it was never my decision to give him all that homework in the first place, but it is there, and we do our best to please our neighbors.  The neighbors don't seem to know that we are doing our best, because they are always doing better than us, but if it's a race they want, I'm game.  Here's my plan:  (I've already tested this tactic in the fourth grade)  You start out acting like you just don't give a damn.  You casually keep a comfortable (VERY comfortable) pace in the rear of the pack.  Then, you will begin to notice that the people charging out in front are getting tired.  This is your moment.  Punch it.  With a steady and gradual increase in speed, saving your greatest energy for that all important home stretch, and BAM.  You're the winner!

The nature of the modern world we live in with it's frenetic pace.....
...virtually insures that we all will get behind in our work at one time or another. Years ago this would cause me untold stress and anxiety. These days it is a bit different. The act of rationalization is the first excercise I go through. Putting the most important first obviously but choosing the least important can be difficult as well. Who or what is going to suffer neglect? I quite often use the " rotating neglect plan ". If I stiffed you for time or attention or heaven forbid payment the last time I got behind now you rise to the top of the list of priorities. Works quite well when time and other management tools are overwhelmed by an unforeseen onslaught of activity.
