wonderful and worthwhile post!
i can remember rubbing my mothers feet just a few weeks before she died, my communication was that i loved her and appreciated all she did for me when i was a child.

oh and often over-looked is the sense of time
and also depth perception...as well as the sense of knowing/judging how much something weighs

and those senses still that words or scientific measurements cannot come close to or begin to imagine

And the absence of touch can be so damaging ...
in a relationship the lack of touch by a partner speaks (negative), volumes as much as the kiss you describe that says so much.  For children, the absence of (loving), touch can, and usually does, lead to psychosis and retarded social skills.  Touch is important between loved ones and good friends, but I'm with Howie Mandel when it comes to touching strangers ... a nice, light, knuckle touch works great for me!!  lol

I don't believe in much but i do believe in the power of touch
It is highly sadly underrated and sorely missing in almost all instances

Applications are limitless and somehow not employed hmmm interesting

Touch and intimacy is found more often on the outskirts of the suburbia

People are apt to be more friendly in the country I notice...City bad for us?  Oh no City-itus!

That video link didn't work for me but your post was right on.....I am a very tactile person...I touch a lot, both genders.....everything.....I automatically reach out to feel the texture of fabrics that look interesting or like they would feel good...I often want to taste things just because they look like they would feel good inside my mouth - put things on my skin for the same reason.  But, as you point out, the most important part of touching is between humans and I communicate so much with my touching and crave it back.  My husband is very aware of this and will often try to play catch-up...touching doesn't come naturally to him as his family didn't touch one another....sad how many are like that, many to the point that they are very protective of the space around their bodies, even those who were never actually physically abused....other than in terms of never having been shown much affection - a subtle form of abuse, in my eyes.
