It would be interesting to find out what exactly made the good citizens of Muskogee elect this kid. I hope he does well, but looking at the probabilities, I would predict he'll be a one-term disaster...

This kid is probably just as surprised that he won as you are.  I think that a good politician (is that an oxymoron?) needs perspective, and at 19, the only perspective you've got is milk and cookies at naptime.  He's way too young.

I admire the fact that he cared enough to run for an office. I wish him well.  sam

Good thoughts there, shahdlou.  Thank you.

A change for the better most likely
We have difficulty in believing youngsters know anything about life and even more in believing that they have organizational skills. But if you look at Dave's Tips on Living today, do you think a nineteen-year-old could organize something like 911? Some of them are purer in heart and aspire to do good. Their illusions have not been shattered, they think positively about their role in society. Not all of them, of course, but would this one have run for Mayor if he didn't?

Re: Some nineteen-year-olds are wise beyond their years,
Surely he will learn a lot and grow from the experience, Pat_B.   Our own Mayor of Kansas City, who is 58, receives much criticism and has been embroiled in controversy and has been described as "....being cold-hearted on the subject of indigent health care."   So, I guess age is not as important as other matters might be.

Some nineteen-year-olds are wise beyond their years,
and others are still aimless as chickens. If he gets along well enough with his family to live with them and run for office while making it in college, he just may be grounded and sensible. Time will tell.

WileyJohn, I think I just might be agreeing with your comment, "....but a kid mayor elected makes one wonder about the mental stability of the voters...."   I hope they do not soon have big regrets.

He's a little too young for me, Norwood.  I guess I've just been around too many 19-year-olds.  I love them to pieces, but I don't think I've ever known one that I thought might be ready to be the Mayor of a 40,000+ population city.

Sorry that should read
Would NOT have my vote until he has lost his milk teeth..!! Editing is so important.

I believe in change and giving youth a chance BUT
I also believe youth needs the voice of experience, age and wisdom to guide it. Being honest I think 19 is too young for Mayor. A town councillor -fine and later deputy mayor but I actually think that the office of mayor should have someone with a bit of life experience. I wish him every success but he would have my vote until he has gotten rid of his milk teeth and gained some experience in other minor offices.

You are an Okie from Muskogee? Yea Haw!
Change can be good...The young Mayor has put the place back on the map...Now if I could just remember the words of that song...Mom used to sing it.
=^..^= Bo says Hi!

Loved your photo TAPS, but a kid mayor elected makes one wonder about the mental stability of the voters . Maybe they are all like me, the older I get the less I care, after years of politicians that turn out to be thieves and blaggards.

Wow 19 years old and already a mayor.  Maybe he will be president some day :-).  I like change, but I preffer like you Taps a little at a time.  Sometimes though one has to shake the tree to get the apples :-) Great post!

I try to agree with change that someone can convince me for the better but change just because of change is crazy. My motto is the old chestnut,

'If it's not broke don't fix it." Perhaps I'm just getting older Taps darlin' LOLAM.

It will be interesting to see how the young mayor goes
Sometimes blind idealism can help.

As for change. If we let love in, it always helps.
