Re: Acts of Kindness
Dear Sam, I think there is always a real possibility that acts of kindness, random or otherwise, can be habit-forming -- in fact, down-right addictive. As you've found with the bicycles -- what a wonderful story that is!

There was a story in one of our local papers this weekend about a young teenage girl who spends her Saturdays handing out baked goods she's made at home to some of the street folk. Now that isn't going to change the unjust social system, but it is sure a great place for a teenager to be -- she knows she can do something that makes a great difference. I predict that in her life she will discover new and better ways to make differences, because she's hooked!

In Winnipeg, Canada, there is a young girl who was not even a teenager when she got a concern about the plight of the homeless people. A bright kid, she thought about this problem and asked a lot of questions, and as a result she has started something called the Ladybug Foundation. She is now a teenager I believe, and recently I bought a book she had written in one of the major bookstores, that explained the usual avid read discount wouldn't apply because the bookstore had decided it wanted to donate all its profits on this book -- which by the way, has become a best seller.

Kindness is like dropping a pebble in a pool -- one never knows how far the ripples will go.

Y'all have a great evening. Your story has made my evening, which I needed following a tough day in the hospital. Thanks.

I enjoyed reading your thoughts very much. Prayer is a must but we must help those who are less fortunate. It can happen any where one is located. Two young young boys live in my complex and emigrated from the Sudan. One day I noticed one of the boys riding another's bicycle. The grin on his face was one to behold. It dawned on me he didn't have a bicycle of his own. I started out to get him and his brother a bicycle. From there Cranky Sprockets ministry was born. I collect nice experienced bicycles and give them to impoverished folks. To date I have given away 20 bicycles. One of the boys came over today because he had a flat tire and we fixed it, he's 5, and he gave me a big hug and said thanks grandma. I had tears in my eye, he loves me so much I am family. I love him dearly too. In my rambling, I think acts of kindness are every where in our immediate circles and we just need to catch the infection of brotherly love and service to on another.   sam
