What's even weirder than that...
...is that the westernmost part of Virginia is farther west than Detroit, Michigan, which is a 'mid-western' state while Virginia is 'eastern.'

I think Ohio is the gateway to the west and therefore you can't be east nor west and therefore in the middle of the mess created by topographers. sam

Thank you for the map!
I'm about as much up to date on the geography of the US (apart from MA, NJ, Florida and California) as you would be about the
départements in France. I've saved it to my computer for future reference. Why are the east side states so small? The states get larger and larger as one goes west.
