I think it would depend on the person and their habits
Also, I would listen to my gut instinct.

I actually think that it's stupid that the police have that rule..
every minute is crucial.  Especially with someone who is missing.  If they would act quickly..a lot of lives would be saved.

I agree with vogue

I worked with someone who was always very prompt, always called if they were going to be late. One day they didn't show up, calls to their apartment went unanswered, friends in the company didn't know where this person might be.

We waited until early afternoon then called the super of this person's building. He went in to find our co-worker unconscious, in dire need of medical attention.

I say, better safe than sorry. If someone is missing for a few hours and usually reliable, there is always a reason and it tends not to be a good one.

I'm afraid, I go hunting immediately if someone close doesn't show up. It makes me uneasy and too many things have happened to people because therif riends waited to long. The old adage: better safe than sorry.
