Parenting is no easy task. We are not given a manual (nor does one exist). We do the best we can, are often filled with self doubt, but must find solace in the fact that we’re doing what we think is best. There are no “do-overs” although I suspect most parents can pin point a time or two when they wish they had handled a situation differently. Thank you again, Scramble, for sharing your journey with us.

Don't be too hard on yourself, Chris.
You are doing the best you can and you have expressed pure love for your son in your writings. Sometimes, he's going to think what he thinks, no matter what you do to prevent it. And in those times, you can't blame yourself. Go easy, my friend.
