hi BC-A, thanks for reading!  yes, every can.  But everyone doesn't, even though everyone should.  Not even half of this nation votes.

Re:
gapcohen, your summation here is exactly why I find Obama to be an uncommon candidate.  Thanks so much for reading.

"That's a path that has been shared by millions upon millions of Americans - evangelicals, Catholics, Protestants, Jews and Muslims alike; some since birth, others at certain turning points in their lives. It is not something they set apart from the rest of their beliefs and values. In fact, it is often what drives their beliefs and their values."

In so many ways, you are right on in this post.  Though I do feel that religion is a private matter and should not be foisted on everyone (as the Pat Robertsons of the world would like to do).  I have never felt so homesick as I did in during Grad School in Deep East Texas where the profs gave exams on Yom Kippur and every school event was preceded by a Baptist prayer.  It wasn't the way I was raised up North - where people of all faiths recognized each other's rituals and holidays and G-d, not Jesus, was invoked, to include all before football games!

I agree there has to be a dialog, but not based on an "I alone own the Truth and you have to come to It or else."  This seems to be what WAS happening in politics, but I think there's a vast segment of the American public getting sick of that kind of self-righteous way of living.  My own faith centers me, makes me more respectful of others, gives me a template to try to live a good life.  It seems as if it is that way for you, too.  But there are so many out there who use Religion to divide.
