Punstar
I've had dandelion salad before and it was pretty good. We
do tend to think of them as weeds only but as your post points out they are from from it.

well, ummm,
I hate to be the first to cast the negative point of view re: these propitious edibles, but every single one of my verigated spider plants trying to emerge this spring are being strangled by the leeching taproot of this giant broadleaf -- the dratted dandelion. It's like an invasion of a parasite in an Alien movie. Every plant has a huge dandelion growing out of its heart and the dandelion
was winning. I attacked on my weaker plant's behalf with ROUNDUP. I tried not to get it on the spider plant, but to kill the weed I may have sacrificed the intended plant... I have not had the pleasure of ever eating dandelion greens, although your picture makes them look appetizing! I'm finding more and more dark green leafies to eat lately! I next will try a mole repellant as our front and back lawns have become "Mole City - no vacancies!" One of us will break an ankle walking through the yards. I'm just driving them away with the repellant and will have to repeat the treatment in a couple of months. Jay was hoping I had mowed the grass and he'd come home and find it done. I just laughed at him and he gave me a big hug - what a notion! I am touched by the previous comments and sweet memories the yellow flower of spring and summer brings. I just don't like the stubborn boogers!

Yum...Neil years ago I lived in Maine and yes, the dandelions and also fiddleheads (fern heads) were eaten and I loved it ~ So sorry to hear you had to mow down the wildflowers (which most call 'weeds')

--- but, we don't want to be a pest to our neighbors ~ awwww

I like dandylions, punstar. I grew up with them before the days of modern lawn care. Now you seldom see them around. I saw a field of bright yellow dandylions blooming in the sun just a couple of days ago. I thought, "How pretty!"
I only kick ass to show I love you.

I love uncut lawns
An uncut lawn attracts a lot more butterflies and other interesting and beautiful little creatures. But the neighbors look on in disgust and the wife needs their approval so she got a neighbor to cut it all down to size to fit other peoples pigeonholes.

The first flower my daughter picked for me was a dandelion. I got one every year and one day she said 'Why didn't you tell me it was a weed?' I said, 'and miss the first flower of the year from my little girl, never.' She is 21 and I still get one every year! sam
