Oh well!
It takes all kinds.  I have similar frsutrations with my husband but decided that that's who he is and gently say the same thing over and over again.  All right, maybe not always gently!!

I must be the male exception to the rule...
...my key is in hand and my door in unlocked within seconds of my arrival, whether it's the car door or the house door. Maybe, living in the Baltimore area most of my life has made me aware of unpleasant possibilities. I know what you women mean, though. It's like men not asking for directions....again I'm the exception. I have map books, an uncanny sense of direction and will ask, if it comes down to it, but, it's seldom necessary. You know what....I think I'm bragging. Sorry about that!

I tend to think that's a male/female thing

I know what you mean... I always have my keys out before I reach my car door or the one to my home. But I think I was more trained to do that as a safety measure when I was growing up.

One of my old (male) bosses was so forgetful that he'd often leave his wallet at work, having walked off with his  car keys in his pocket and nothing else.
