I will try it. I love different slants on soups. This sounds great. There was a family reicpe it seemed from each family on plain garden vegetables when I grew up. You are right one or more ingredients added or ignored makes a tremendous difference. I never had white pintos.

strat, that sounds like a hearty man's soup that even a woman could enjoy. Since I cook quite often for four men, guess what they are getting at the next invite. (definitely with cornbread).
