If you want to read more about the coal industry's contribution to the
global warming problem, especially with regard to the U.S. and China, read the book Big Coal, by Jeff Goodell: http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/saul_relative12/469033.

Great post, Xeno-x. And you're absolutely right about increased industrial
activity in Asia.  China and India are now the in the top three carbon emissions producers in the world (right up there with the good ole U.S.A.) in their efforst to modernize and catch up with the rest of the world.  Coal burning industries and coal burning power plants to run those industries are  what's fueling the carbon emissions which clog the air and produce the global warming effect.  People can deny it all they want, but we're slowly but surely killing the planet...

Far north hemisphere -- why it's warmer.

1st -- I would say in comparison to the usual temperature -- greatest increase in Siberia, classically cold.

2nd, the Northern Hemisphere is the site of the greatest industrial activity.  I think you can find a correlation between warmer spots and being downwind of industry.

Any particular reason why it is more so in the North-east?
